Border Security Update for Travellers Arriving in Singapore

Singapore has started extra security checks at its border checkpoints. The new checks began on 28 February 2026 and apply to all entry points into the country.

The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said the checks are now being carried out at airports, land checkpoints, and seaports. Because of this, travellers may spend a little more time than usual at immigration.

Arriving travellers in Singapore can expect slightly longer passport and document checks, while cargo shipments are now under tighter inspection. Land vehicles entering from Malaysia may also face additional security screening.

Singapore is known for its quick immigration process, especially at Changi Airport, where many travellers usually pass through in just a few minutes. With the new checks, some travellers may notice slightly longer queues during busy arrival times.

Authorities say the delay should normally be very small and may only add a few extra minutes. However, travellers crossing the land borders between Singapore and Malaysia might experience a bit more waiting time, as these checkpoints are often busy.

Officials said the extra checks are a precaution due to the current global security situation, including recent developments in the Middle East. The goal is to keep Singapore’s borders safe while still welcoming visitors.

Travellers should keep their passports and travel documents ready when they arrive. They should also complete the SG Arrival Card online before travelling. Allowing a little extra time for immigration can also help make the arrival process smoother.
